Alaska Hunting Season
Hunting Transport with Kodiak Water Taxi & Transport
As we move into the fall and early winter, our busiest months for hunting transport, we begin to shift our fleet and crew toward supporting hunters and clients who need dependable access to remote areas. Whether you’re planning a big hunt or a smaller expedition, we have the crew experience and vessel capabilities to handle the job. We also assist with last-minute prep for winter, helping our clients work around weather limitations and finish those end-of-season projects before the Alaskan winter fully sets in.
What We Offer
Fall & Early Winter Services
While operations are limited due to winter weather in and around Kodiak, we continue to offer our typical services for Kodiak Island logistics, supply drops, research projects, charters, and more. Our primary focus during this season is generally hunting transport, but we’re always open to talking and creating custom trips for you.
Kodiak Hunting Transport
We offer delivery to your chosen, predetermined access areas with our time-tested landing crafts, floatplanes, and larger boats as requested. You tell us where you want to go, and we’ll determine if we can get you there safely and retrieve you safely.
When planes present challenges for larger groups, big game transport, and that classic Kodiak Island fog, our boats save the day with long-range radar and remote access capabilities.
Supply and Logistics Runs
Kodiak Water Taxi & Transport is here to help finish those late-season projects before winter sets in. Our safe and reliable vessels will make those final deliveries and Alaska gear drops, navigating the challenging waters of Alaska.
Along with our landing crafts, we can partner with other vessels in the Gulf of Alaska to facilitate small and large-scale logistics runs. Each vessel is captained by licensed professionals and documented with the United States Coast Guard, always keeping safety as the top priority.
Other Services
With long-range radar, seasoned crews, and capable vessels, we continue (though limited) charters, research trips, and any general transport customers need. As weather allows, we will safely get you, your team, and your gear where you need to be.
How We Operate | Safety Regulations
Kodiak Transport & Water Taxi is not a guide service. Due to fish and game regulations, we do not choose or suggest hunting locations, but Captain Tyler Randolph and crew know Kodiak and can get you where you want to go safely.
Predetermined Locations + Client Responsibility
While we love spontaneity as much as anyone, predetermined locations - chosen by the client - are the safest options for hunting trips in fall and winter. Once a client chooses a location during the planning process, we can determine whether it is a viable option for arriving and departing safely.
Because we are transport and not guides, hunters are responsible for planning out their own routes and hunting strategies, ensuring they comply with all local and state regulations and seasons.
Drop + Retrieval Safety Checks
While our boats can handle many challenges, trips are always weather-dependent to ensure everyone’s safety. If we determine we can’t get you there safely, or we aren’t sure we can retrieve you from your chosen location, we won’t go.
We believe in honesty and transparency, so you will always be notified ahead of time of what we can and can’t do based on weather, tides, and site conditions.
Boats vs. Aircraft
How We Decide
At Kodiak Water Taxi & Transport, we’re proud to boast an impressive fleet by sea and air. Whether you’re planning a research expedition, a fishing party, a hunting trip, a gear drop, or a scenic wildlife tour, our planes and boats can get you there. But how do we decide what transportation method is best for you?
Cost + Capacity
Boat transport is more expensive than single-aircraft charters, but it is generally the better option if you’re traveling with a large group of people, have a heavy camp load, or, in the case of hunting, have multiple animals to transport back. Boats allow larger groups to travel together (instead of multiple trips) and haul more gear and more meat.
Weather + Reliability
Kodiak Island is well-known for its dense fog and low visibility, which often grounds airplanes. Our larger boats with long-range radar are able to operate in conditions that keep aircraft tied to the dock. This makes water transport the most efficient and dependable choice in marginal weather.
Specialized Vessels for Kodiak Winter Transport
If your hunting trip requires heavy hauling or you have other large project needs, we defer to our two most capable vessels. The Lady Sea and Tiger Cape can carry bulky cargo and large camp setups, handling all your more challenging hauling needs.
Practical Tips + How To Book
We’re always down for a chat, so email us or give us a call. Be ready to share your planned dates, group size, gear needs, and desired dropoff and pickup locations. We’ll determine how we can help and if we can safely transport you to and from your destination for an Alaska hunting trip to remember.
A Few Things to Remember
As we said, we are not a guided service. Kodiak Water Taxi & Transport is a transport service, so you will need to supply coordinates and well-defined dropoff and pickup points ahead of time. Expect confirmations from us about whether a drop or retrieval is safe before departure, and consider what type of transport might be best for your needs. We are well-versed in Kodiak Island transport, and we can help you decide what vessel is right for you.
